Following an action request in the 2021 Neighbourhood Plan the Parish Council have been working hard to create a large open space for residents to walk, sit and enjoy nature.
With the support of the National Lottery the Parish Council have been able to purchase the field on the far side of the recreation ground.
Thanks to financial support from Central Bedfordshire’s USKP Fund we have been able to install gates to the new area. In the coming weeks new fencing will be installed, signage erected and in the future benches will be put in place.
Recently, with the support of CPRE and the Woodland Trust trees and bushes have been planted. Hedges have also been planted with a team from CPRE and the pupils at Campton School. A small wood land has been planted with the help of residents. Avenues of trees are being planted down the sides of the field to create shade in the summer.
The next stage will be to create a wildflower meadow in the middle with footpaths cut into it.
Unfortunately until the footpaths are laid out residents cannot use the area for safety reasons. At present the ground is very uneven and in places there are very deep holes caused by rabbits. Once pathways have been laid out the area will be opened for residents to enjoy.
The Parish Council would like to thank all the residents who have supported this project in any way from the original concept in the Neighbourhood Plan to the planting of the trees.
