A message from our Ward Councillors…..
With schools gradually reopening and lockdown measures beginning to ease it is important that we continue to develop measures on our streets and in our town centres to enable social distancing. With that in mind, we are doing everything we can to maximise the width of the pavements to enable safe walking routes.
Two ways in which everyone can do their part to help us with this are to cut back overgrown hedges and vegetation and to refrain from parking vehicles over footpaths. Our Highways Team will be asking residents to trim back any hedges or vegetation which is encroaching on the pavement. This is in order to help us maximise the width of pavements to help with social distancing.
If residents are isolating, shielding or unable to cut back their own vegetation we would encourage them to ask family or neighbours to help or get in touch with us via traffic.consultation@centralbedfordshire.gov.uk and we will try to help where possible.
Another way residents can help is by not obstructing pavements with their vehicles. Parking can be a contentious issue, especially around schools and more so now around green spaces and access points to rights of way. By refraining from parking over the kerb, residents are able to use the maximum width of the pavement which will help with social distancing.
